About
My Repertoire
Hello, my name is Cynthia Young and here are some things I have done:
Ballerina – performed lead roles in such works as Cinderella, The Nutcracker, and Paquita and other modern ballet works. Served as a Dance Ambassador to the Philippines and danced with the country’s top company, Ballet Philippines. Performed in the capital city’s Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Anthropologist & Archaeologist – first got to digging in high school in a selective summer program with a Stanford professor and received credit at UC Berkeley. Obtained a BA in Anthropology & Archaeology at BYU. Most of my fieldwork took place in the Four Corners region recovering Fremont and Anasazi sites.
Museum Curator – curated exhibitions on the Virgin Anasazi, Mexican, Hopi, and Far East cultures as well as Natural History exhibitions (minerals, butterflies, and sea creatures!). Running a museum is like owning and running a business. Thus, I enjoyed the moneymaking side (fundraising, grants, and store), community outreach (prospecting, marketing, and PR), and the product (experience, workshops, education).
Entrepreneurship & Venture Capital– tested my entrepreneurial-ability in Junto 2005. Excelled in the key actions a start up maker must do to take flight, such as, raising funds, selling, and recruiting talented people to help you for free (or low pay!). I joined the University Venture Fund as an associate, and was then brought on as a Director of Fundraising & Special Events. Worked with some intelligent founders and their businesses, evaluated companies, and invested in just some of the great startups that came our way. I also took care of bringing in sponsors, leading speakers, and top universities to the annual Private Equity Summit.
Business Development – oversaw the loyalty rewards department at CK Media, the publishers of America’s favorite scrapbooking and sewing magazines. With 19,000+ loyalty members nationwide combined with partners such as National City Bank/PNC and Shutterfly, I kept myself hopping with marketing across the U.S., leading a national sales team, and overhauling operations. May scrapbooking, crafting, sewing, and quilting live long and prosper!
