So, What Do YOU Do?

With a pair of good eyes and a keen obseravation, you can tell a lot about a person before you open your mouth for a hello. But, in this era of networking, we aren’t satisfied by the information transferred through appearances alone. We have to fullfill the need to know, “What is IT that you do?”
Some may detest answering this question. Afterall, who wants to be pegged, catorgorized, or stereotyped? But, before developing a ripe hatered for this question, consider how it was in the “olden days” — more specifically — any era and place from 1830 America to 1200, Medieval France. From the day someone was born during that span of centuries, a person inherited a class and a profession, like it or not! Why would anyone network back in the day? Especially when appearance gave one all he needed to know about a stranger.
More and more societies are becoming “mingle” oriented. People in different classes, professions, and cutlures are constantly finding ways to connect. The “what do you do? ” question is really just a feeler question. It allows the individual to paint her own answer to that question, which ultimately allows self definition. And, the other bonus is we have the power to change what we do at any point in life, giving us the fun opportunity to get to know our friends and associates all over again.
