Business Culture Reincarnation

Submitted by on April 14, 2010 – 4:40 amNo Comment

Business cultures are born, grow old, die, and are reborn into something new and usually unrecognizable.  Kind have like people…if you believe in reincarnation.  This process used to take much longer to occur, even centuries.  It was natural to fight the adoption of a new way of doing business, and for some companies, it still is.  Then once a business and its culture is established, people fight to keep it  alive even when it’s clearly time for it to depart.  However, with more innovation–both social and technological–the cycle has sped up exponentially.  The only way now for an established company to survive this faster, cultural lifecycle is to allow its cultures to die and be reborn at the same pace.  Or, a company could take in the DNA of the smaller company it buys. Yes, let yourself be infected by the new guys.  It just may be the best way to keep a legacy company relevant and alive.
