Thank You Ms. CoCo Chanel
After browsing through the fashion website Deep Glamour and reading post after post about Coco Chanel, I experienced a sentiment that I do not usually associate with fashion: gratitude. So why be grateful when it comes to fashion? Especially, when thousands of women feel terrible at the sight of the demi-goddesses of beauty, thinness, and style on the cover of magazines today? The reason is because Chanel gave us many of the classic and essential elements women (be they apple, pear, or stick shaped) use in their wardrobes till this day.
She came up with the little black dress when everyone was wearing the long, lacy dress. She used jersey and pretty much invented sportswear. What about those tasteful bits of tweed that put some oomph into an outfit? Chanel again. Just enjoy the video below and you’ll feel the gratitude.
The biggest reason to be grateful to Coco, is that she was determined to be herself and live her passion. Today, many bloggers and gurus rail on about how stifling the status-quo and mediocrity are today. But, can you imagine a time when propriety was practically the law? When a mere bit of gossip could forever soil a woman’s reputation and deprive her of happiness and financial security? Ms. Chanel unapologetically rocked the boat, and the world became a better place for it. Every innovative thinker, entrepreneur, designer, and independently minded woman can be thoroughly proud to have such a wonderful predecessor of thought, action, and wit.
