Faces

Brad Feld (VC and blogger extraordinaire) recently wrote a post about faces.  His first few paragraphs took me back to my college Biological Anthropology class and how powerful faces are to human beings.  Brad’s friend stated that an avatar face made Brad look more inaccessible, so Brad changed it back to his normal photo. But what if Brad felt so bad about the avatar that he went to a professional photographer, put on his best schmoozer smile, and then added this glam photo to his twitter account? All his friends would be asking, when did Brad get into real estate?

There is something special about the real human face that an array of businesses could capitalize on.  Many marketers have taken advantage of our basic human need for faces and others have utilized anthropomorphs.  There’s a reason why those cartoon characters on cereal boxes have freakishly big eyes!  However, those fake faces do not establish a strong connection.  I wonder what industries and companies will use biological anthropology research in order to get the real human face to work for them?
